There are obvious answers to the question of why people dance. We dance for physical fitness, we dance for mental clarity, and other such pluses. Perhaps dance is the way we express ourselves when words are insufficient. We dance for the pleasure of experiencing the body and the surrounding environment in new and special ways. Every answer will be different, and that is how it should be. Perhaps the better question is “Why would we not?”.

Some of the most popular dance categories and types are ballroom dances, traditional jazz dances, professional performance, modern, and hip-hop. Ballroom dances first started appearing in Italy, which led to this kind of entertainment quickly sweeping over Europe, the United States, and other parts of the world. Some examples include waltz, tango, and jive. Similar to ballroom dancing, professional performance dance was also first introduced during the early years of the Italian Renaissance. A couple of examples include ballet, modern, and tap. Due to its great popularity in the media, movies, and television programs, hip-hop dances found a great foothold in the United States, the United Kingdom, and South Korea. Said examples include breaking, locking, and popping.
I have always loved dancing because it fills my heart with joy. From the basic effects of regular body exercise, rehabilitation usages, and changes in social life to the lifesaving abilities of long-term use, dancing to me is one of the easiest ways to improve and prolong your life. Dancing has taught me certain moral lessons such as perseverance, not giving up, understanding my feelings, and most importantly, confidence. I have always been shy ever since I could remember, but dance is the best medium where I can show who I really am. Through dancing, I understood my emotions and knew myself better by understanding my talents in such a way that I didn’t know until I danced.
