Prisoners
were once considered to be “slaves of the state.” Today, prisoners have
constitutional rights. Some may argue that the system has allowed
prisoners to have too many constitutional rights. Is this the case or
has the criminal justice system got the right balance? If not, what
would be the appropriate balance between the old approach to prisoners’
rights and the new approach to prisoners’ rights? Explain your answer and provide examples.
