English, Science, Mathematics, Filipino, Social Sciences, and many more. A lot of subjects to be learned, right? They say that these matters always bother our minds. Always making some research, projects, and homework just to have prepared answers to be given to our teacher instead of having rest at home while watching television and bonding with our family. But maybe there is some importance in this?
Homework is still part of our education and it gives the students a chance to apply what they learned in school inside their home. I would like to share my opinion about the importance of this, as well as my take on the No Homework policy. I know some of the students are happy about the policy because it would finally lessen their worries and works at home. For me, I disagree with this policy. We all know that homework is one of our responsibilities as students. It teaches us to work independently and develops self-discipline and a sense of punctuality. The implementation of such a policy will only build laziness among students and divert their attention to computers. As a teenager/student, sometimes phones or gadgets are the things that caused distractions in such homework like playing online games, but when I have an assignment or homework, I got a chance to take a review of the past lessons because for me homework is important, because it allows me to practice the things I learned at school, and it’s my responsibility to do many things such as doing homework. Homework teaches me how to work independently, encourages self-discipline, responsibility, and a love of learning, and can also teach me to manage my time and do things on time. It can also help me to recall the lessons that were taught during class and also for us to be able to expand our knowledge about a certain topic. And most of all, we should retain our knowledge from school because I believe that the true essence of education must cope with lessons that we must apply to our real life, especially to our homes. Through this, it can also help us to have a good relationship and also proper communication with our parents, OUR FIRST TEACHERS. And it will enhance student’s critical thinking ability and it will master the lesson given by their teachers. Students learned to manage their time better, organize their projects better, reread all the class material, and learn how to work independently. But some of the students are complaining about homework and say they need to relax, but homework is not actually a burden or a problem, they are making it hard for themselves, because instead of doing it right away, they tend to do other stuff rather than doing their homework. In order to be productive, they should just stop complaining and just learn how to manage their time. Time is important to all of us, and the misuse of it can sometimes be a burden to us in the long term. Using our time wisely and understanding deadlines of time is important in life, and the younger we will learn this, the better we will become and the more organized we will be. We should also understand that the given task need to perform by a certain time, and not doing it can create a wide range of issues for all people involved.
I therefore conclude that homework is really important and that if the No Homework policy will continue we are just tolerating students being lazy when it comes to their studies because I believe that this is one of the simplest ways to teach students to become irresponsible when it comes to their future. As a student, homework is my way to learn on my own and this is the proof that I learned from my previous lessons. By doing homework, we can recall the past lessons which helps us to gain a lot of knowledge that we used and avail it.
