I am 39 years old and I am from Romania. The last time I went to school was in 1999 when I finished high school at, Liceul Industrial Transporturi Auto number 8. Currently, I work full-time as a warehouse operative; this is one of the many reasons why I want to pursue higher education and achieve a diploma in business administration. I want to take my career to the next level or open my own business, but the main thing I want is not to have a boss anymore, so achieving this diploma will give me a slight edge to start in a world like a business. I am currently an OBC student studying business management, and in this report, I want to talk about what characterizes me as such a student, and how studying here contributed to the formation of the characteristics described below.

During the program, we got taught about learning styles, what we used to identify our learning styles was called VARK, this is a test taken by the student to accurately discover their learning styles, mine is visual and auditory. I use two styles of learning to absorb information, this makes me more of an efficient learner as I combine multiple styles to learn.

When it comes to communication, there is a sender and a receiver, and the information is sent or received. During my studies, I have developed my communication skills by understanding that there are 3 ways of communication, which are verbal, non-verbal, digital, and body language. According to Richard Norquist (2019), “Communication is the creation and exchange of meaning”. I, like many people, use body language for mostly everything, even when I present in class. If you have bad body language, your delivery will not be as excellent, even though your verbal is perfect. So, in order to make people understand what we mean we must communicate correctly. And that’s what I am trying to do.

I have developed by reflecting and asking myself the best outcome and practice, I use reflection to practice or to perfect whatever I am about to say or react to. Reflecting gives me the chance to look back and see what I did wrong and what I need to change and then practice if it isn’t still good; change the words the situation anything that would make it more like you have planned. I developed as a student because reflecting makes me want to do better, and as a student, I have all my other classmates as a competition. Reflection can be a very empowering process. It can help you make sense of your day, come to decisions, see a course of action, and step away from your habitual way of doing and thinking to discover new freedoms and opportunities.

Speaking of reading skills, I can claim that during my studies I learned the 3 different types of readers: scanning, skimming, and detailed reading. I am a skimming reader, which means I look for the most interesting information, and all the other information is either not been read or is irrelevant to what I was looking for. This has helped me develop as I now mostly spend 10-15 seconds per page to gather all the necessary information.

And finally, critical thinking is also characteristic of me as a student. What is critical thinking? According to Critical Thinking Web (2020), “Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally about what to do or what to believe”. Through learning, an individual can debate, question, or correct any source of information. This allows you as a student to learn new knowledge but also put that knowledge to the test. Critical thinking puts your brain to work and allows you to process that information in your head. The benefits that come from critical thinking are better information recollection, increased rationality, and better decision-making. With all this combined, critical thinking allows you to have a clear mind where you can easily access your knowledge to check the information provided is accurate, if not, you can start a debate and state facts that prove your point of view.

Summing up, in this essay, I described how I have developed as a student and how this has helped me in my day-to-day life to develop as an individual. I can describe myself as a multimodal student with good communication skills, a habit of daily reflection to learn from my mistakes and become a wiser person, able to think critically, and have the ability to make better decisions and believe. I am sure that my further development as a student and as a person in general will definitely contribute to my success.
